The Story so far…

Hellbound (Korean: 지옥) is a South Korean supernatural dark fantasy thriller television series. Set in the year 2022, supernatural beings suddenly appear out of nowhere to condemn people to Hell. Where a floating face delivers condemnations, and then monsters arrive ripping space-time to send individuals to hell. This gives rise to a group of religious fanatics founded on the idea of divine justice.

Hellbound Season 2 Netflix: Plot, Mystery Explanation and More…

First, we see only the people who have committed sins getting condemned to hell, giving this phenomenon a meaning. Then, the creatures started condemning innocent people to hell also, making this phenomenon seem random in nature. To prevent this knowledge from leaking out to the general public, leading to a world of chaos, Jeong Jin-soo created a Religion that rationalized this event as God’s judgment years before it began. This prevents the world from falling into chaos until they all see a baby sentenced to hell.

Solving the Mystery

Seemingly people who were sent to hell started coming back from hell with PTSD. The Chairman of the religious origination Jeong Jin-soo and a mother of two children Park Jeong-ja came back from hell. But something was different about both of them: they now had superpowers. Chairman Jeong Jin-soo has the power to turn into a monster that can jump between dimensions and Park Jeong-ja can see how people die, but in this case, the future can be changed if you know how you will die then you can prevent it from happening.

Hellbound: Who are the Punishers/Demons

This follows a pattern of evolution by God, not the sinners getting sentenced to eternal hell by God. God is selecting people and sending them to hell to face constant torture, the torture is not picked by God but by the person themself. Once the person overcomes the suffering put on them by themselves they are reborn with a new super ability. The child who was sentenced to hell was reborn in an instant as she didn’t have any problems with her life. Those who return are not just Homosapiens, they are now Homosupersapiens.

Evolution ft. God

The Atheist believes in Random Evolution, while the Theist believes in Guided Evolution. The problem with random evolution is that it has never been proven, evolution follows some law and in some way tries to achieve perfectness in correspondence to the current environment. Like the first humans shedding their skin protection color to live in a colder environment. Evolution is trying to reach some goal by following a map, in which it compares its current path with the actual path.

We now have programs to simulate evolution with natural selection. There are two things to notice here: the first creature is programmed with the information needed to evolve and the elimination is done by natural selection, which also clearly has a written code behind it similar to the laws of nature. We call things random or infinite because we are unable to comprehend them. Randomness is impossible in the real world. For example, if you throw a rock and it lands on Position A, then you reset the universe down to a single atom and throw the rock again, where do you think the rock will land?

Soul ft. God

Now God intervenes again to add soul to only one chosen creature among all the living species. Before the introduction of the soul, all the creatures lived their lives similarly and reached their current form under the limits set by the laws of nature. Among all the primates one is chosen to receive the divine gift. This divine gift turns a monkey into a man enabling man to learn language, discover logic, understand justice, feel aesthetics, seek purpose, etc. traversing beyond survival of the fittest, selfishness, and amorality.

Humans and chimpanzees share roughly 98.8% of their DNA. Even when we share the same body parts, neurons firing, animal instinct, etc. with animals we are nothing alike. We are superior, we are better, we are the Apex Predator. Why is that? What’s the thing that separates us from them? In what way do we differ?

Hell ft. God

Hellbound follows the same logic of God’s intervention in the evolution of mankind. This time God picks humans and sends them to a hell made up of their own internal suffering, guilt, and problems. Those who can resolve their issues are given a new chance at life from where they left off. This will gradually end up creating a world of Supersapiens and is the end of Homosapien, similar to the Neanderthals’.

The End

It’s a good show but too mysterious that average people find it very hard to understand, what in the hell is going on? I have never read the source material on which the show is based on, so this explanation is just the best logical opinion I can think of. The information regarding Philosophy of Science, Darwinism, and Theology (Islam) stands on its own regardless of the show. I will continue this discussion on Atheism vs Theism in my upcoming book I am God (A phone convo between Man & God).
